Who Are You Today?

Angie McLean

OWNER & FOUNDER

Owner Angie McLean, a mother of 3 and a graduate from the college of Journalism at the University of Florida in 1989, realized exactly 6 days after graduation and into her new corporate job, that she could not squeeze into a corporate suit.

Shop. Price. Sell. Repeat.

When used clothing stores were not really a thing yet, Angie boldly started the first Psycho Sisters with a card table for a counter, a shoe box for a cash register, and 20 tubs of clothing that was bought from mall employees with a year’s worth of wages from bartending tip money.

“Once the store opened, the very first weekend, it was like a train started rolling, and I’ve been chasing it ever since. The store is continually reinventing itself, keeping itself alive on the cutting edge of fashion.”

Since then, Angie has streamlined the operations of the store by building a highly capable team so she can spend more time with her family, travel internationally, and buy and renovate affordable housing to rent to families.

During the global crisis in 2020, Angie took her attention off of the media and prayed for another way to pay it forward.

Almost immediately, her prayers were answered when she stumbled upon an orphanage in Uganda called Rosemary Child Love via Facebook.

Angie’s humanitarian side stepped up.

The orphanage quickly became Angie’s life mission. She has a deep desire to help abandoned children off of the street and out of refugee camps and into the supportive arms of the Rosemary Foundation.  The Rosemary Foundation’s homes and schools offer love, education, and hope for the future, offering children the opportunity to fulfill their dreams to become teachers, doctors, entrepreneurs and public speakers.

When Angie first met with the founder of Rosemary Child Love Foundation, Constantine Makowe, she felt called to offer her time, energy, and financial resources to support his worthwhile vision.  The Rosemary Foundation aims to  build homes and schools, buy acreage to grow organic crops, dig clean water wells, and establish farmer’s markets and other small businesses for the grown children to operate and thrive in.

Thus far, 107 children live at the orphanage.  Five of the older children are in private boarding school and three young adults are now attending university. The cost to sponsor an older child to attend boarding school for an entire year is $1,000.

In addition to her other support, Angie loves to dress the  children by shipping boxes of thrifted clothing to Uganda. The girls love swirling in sparkly tutus, and the boys enjoy their quality fun clothing as well. They’re the best dressed kids in Uganda – check out their Facebook page!

“These kids are the most amazing, joyful kids. They thoroughly appreciate the opportunity for proper education and hope for a bright future. I can’t think of a better way to give back to this world all the blessings that I have received from the career I chose,  Psycho Sisters Clothing.”

In honor of Angie’s contributions, the orphanage’s academy is called the Phoenix E. Academy, named after Angie’s adopted son.

If you’d like to view the orphanages’ success stories, please go to Rosemary Child Love and follow Constantine, the founder and operations manager of the orphanage and academy.  You are also welcome to contact Angie directly at buyer@psychosisters if you’d like to hear more about the orphanage, or if you would like to schedule a time to call the kids and say hello!
